Pathways Tutoring: Student Code of Conduct and Behaviour Policy

Introduction and Philosophy

We believe that mutual respect and clear boundaries are the foundation of effective learning. Our policy is designed to foster a positive, happy, and focused environment where every child feels safe and confident to achieve their full potential. We emphasize encouragement and positive reinforcement to guide students toward becoming responsible, independent, and ambitious learners.

Aims of Our Policy

To promote excellent teaching and learning through relationships built on mutual respect between students and tutors.

  1. To ensure a safe, supportive, and secure environment where students can become positive and confident individuals.

  2. To consistently reward commendable behaviour and effort, providing encouragement and stimulation for all pupils.

  3. To apply this policy consistently and fairly, making reasonable adjustments for students with Special Educational Needs/Disabilities (SEND), in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Our Pathway Principles

We ask all students to follow these key principles during every tutoring session, whether in-person or online:

  • Be Ready: Come to your tuition lesson equipped and ready to learn.

  • Be Respectful: Treat your tutor and fellow students with kindness and consideration.

  • Be Kind and Gentle: Use gentle words and actions toward everyone in the session.

  • Give Your Best: Always put forth maximum effort, even when the work is challenging.

  • Be Attentive: Listen carefully to your tutor and to others when they are speaking; try not to interrupt.

  • Be Polite: Wait patiently and raise your hand if you have a question or wish to contribute an answer.

Encouragement and Rewards

Our primary focus is on promoting and celebrating good behaviour. We use a positive system of rewards to motivate students:

  • Immediate Praise: Verbal recognition and encouragement during the session.

  • Tangible Rewards: Use of stickers or small tokens of achievement.

  • Celebration: An end-of-term event featuring personalised certificates and a reward ceremony to celebrate student achievements and effort, which parents are encouraged to attend.

Addressing Unacceptable Behaviour (Sanctions)

When a student does not adhere to the Pathways Rules, we use a staged approach to re-establish focus:

  1. Verbal Warning: The tutor will first address the behaviour privately and calmly, reminding the student of the Pathways Rules and the expectations.

  2. Parental Involvement: For repeated or more severe behaviour that disrupts the learning of the student or others, the parent or guardian will be informed immediately. The tutor and parent will collaborate to agree on a clear, individualised action plan that addresses the student's specific needs and circumstances.

Physical Intervention

Phsyical intervention is an absolute last resort. This is strictly limited to situations where a student is endangering themselves or others. Any force used must be the minimal necessary to prevent injury. In all cases where physical intervention is required, parents will be informed immediately, or as soon as is reasonably practicable.

Parental Partnership

We view parents as essential partners in a child’s education. We rely on parents to:

  • Support their child in understanding and following the Pathways Rules.

  • Co-operate with tutors and the company to address any concerns.

We are committed to maintaining strong, open communication and will always inform parents promptly if we have any concerns regarding their child's welfare or behaviour. We also welcome parents to share any concerns they may have with us.
